Ratna Viswanathan is the CEO of Reach to Teach India, where she focuses on enhancing education quality and outcomes in low resource Government schools. With over 35 years of diverse experience, including two decades as a civil servant, Ratna has worked in sectors like development, microfinance, environment, and education. She holds a Master's degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Lucknow. At Reach to Teach, Ratna leads a team implementing innovative, activity-based learning aligned with India’s National Education Policy 2020. She is also dedicated to forging partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders to drive systemic change in education. Her prior leadership roles include positions at Oxfam, VSO, the Microfinance Institutions Network of India and the United Nations, where she created sustainable financing frameworks, built strong frameworks and strengthened governance.
In the microfinance sector, Ratna was instrumental in establishing a Self-Regulating Organisation (SRO) framework for NBFC-MFIs on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India. As CEO of the Microfinance Institutions Network, she developed robust mechanisms for compliance, borrower protection, and sectoral analytics. Her efforts extended to setting up UNEP's Sustainable India Finance Facility, advancing climate goals and SDGs through private-public partnerships. Ratna is passionate about creating equitable ecosystems by building collaborative strategies to serve underserved communities, leveraging her expertise in governance, strategy, and people management.
She is an Independent Director on the Board of several Companies
