Alan Knight is a highly experienced sustainability leader with a career spanning over three decades, working at the intersection of corporate strategy and sustainability and how to embed standards in complex supply chains He is currently the Chief Sustainability Officer at WE Soda, following his role as Group Director of Sustainability at Drax Group. Before Drax, Alan spent seven years as Global Head of Sustainable Development at ArcelorMittal, where he co-chaired ResponsibleSteel and created the Ebola Private Sector Mobilisation Group—an initiative that united over 100 companies in responding to the West African Ebola crisis, earning him a Clinton Global Citizen honour in 2015.
Earlier in his career, Alan was Sustainability Director at Business in the Community (BITC), advised the Virgin Group for seven years, and held senior roles at B&Q and Kingfisher, where he helped shape global sustainability agendas. He was instrumental in founding the Forest Stewardship Council and served nine years as a commissioner for the UK’s Sustainable Development Commission. Recognised with an OBE in 1998 and multiple global awards, Alan holds a PhD in Geology and Marine Biology and continues to influence policy, business strategy, and sustainability practices at the highest levels.
